Waxing Info

HAIR LENGTH

You will need some hair growth for the wax to hold onto.  I recommend ¼ inch or more which is about 2-3 weeks of grow out after shaving.

WHO CAN’T BE WAXED

Certain oral drugs, like blood thinners and topical medications such as RETIN A ,  DIFFERIN, ACCUTANE, ADAPALENE, ALUSTRA, AVITA, ISOTRETINOIN, TAZARAC, TRETINOIN, SOME ANTIBIOTICS, PROACTIVE  & RETINOL can cause serious problems in waxing. Please discuss with me before waxing if you are taking or have been taking any of these drugs. You cannot be waxed if you are sunburned,  tanned day of or are having a herpes outbreak.

PERIOD

Your skin is the most sensitive before your period and waxing can be more painful than normal. If you are concerned about pain, you should book your appointment a few days before or after.  I wax people on their period all the time (make sure you wear a tampon).

EXFOLIATE

While the skin on your face is generally exfoliated enough in terms of waxing, the body needs a little help. A sugar/salt scrub will help rid the body of dead skin cells around skin pores and hair follicles, providing an easier exit. You can also use a hand glove.  Make sure to wash them often so they are not growing bacteria.

PAIN

Take an Ibuprofen or Advil 30 to 45 minutes before appointment. I offer a complimentary numbing cream,  come in 10-15 minutes early so it has time to work. Smoking, caffeine and alcohol consumption creates a lot of acid in the body’s system.  You might benefit from taking something like tums 20 minutes before your service to reduce acidity and therefore reducing your skin’s sensitivity.  Drinking coffee before waxing can make the skin extra sensitive to waxing.

AFTER WAXING

In the first 24-48 hours you may experience some sensitivity like redness or irritation in the area that was treated.  This is normal, and the longer you wax the less the reaction. There are some tips you can follow within 24 after waxing:

  1. Do not use any exfoliating products for 24 hours (except flawless) as most products contain acid which could further irritate the skin.
  2. No Sex, working out, showers, baths, steam or swimming (nothing with heat) for 24 hours.
  3. No tight clothing for the first few days to avoid ingrown hairs.  No touching waxed area for 24 hours.
  4. Use Hand glove every few days in bath or shower along with a hair solution ( flawless).
